UP Banjo Signal 1992, Kyle Rwy on the Rock Island, BN SD9, Chicago Central GP10! Secondary Rail Routes of the Midwest 1992 highlights regional railroads and rail lines less traveled. Snow blankets the prairie as Kyle Railroad U30C units traverse the old Rock Island mainline to Limon, Colorado. Banjo signals grace the crossings on Union Pacific's Kansas Pacific line. Burlington Northern SD9 and switch engines shuttle freight cars in Hastings and Crete, Nebraska. The Chicago Central operates old Illinois Central Gulf GP7, GP8, GP9, GP18 and ICG-built GP10 diesels on the old ICG Chicago-Omaha line. In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Cedar Rapids & Iowa City switches cars in the snow as a Chicago & North Western GP7 crosses the Cedar River. Bloomer Line GP9 units work a remnant of the old Chicago-St. Louis Wabash line. On the old Rock Island in Waterloo, Iowa, former BN high-hood GP9 locomotives operate on short line Iowa Northern. Finally, former C&NW F7 streamliners pull the "Iowa Star Clipper" dinner train in Waverly, Iowa.
