Classic grinding noises and transmission moans, rattly windows, but a turn of speed, gets the weary traveller from Carmyle railway station to Glasgow Central and back on Saturday 24th February 1996. The train was one of British Rail's seemingly ubiquitous but by then fast disappearing range of first generation slam-door diesel multiple units. On arrival at Glasgow we see other units and electric multiple units of the time. Perhaps footage of transport is one of the most studied of all historic themes to post but there are, as yet remarkably few vignettes of first generation DMUs considering how much of Britain relied upon them for a 40 years for everyday local train travel and commuting.
