In my last video, I said that A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine contained all the things that I enjoy. I had just started to read the book. As I got further into the novel, it turns out that it's sadly not as good as I wanted it to be. In fact, I found the experience rather lacking. Listen to be complain about bad pacing, flat characters, narrative distance, flowery prose, and all the good stuff you're looking for in a (sort of) rant review. Because while this book wasn't awful like What Fury Brings and Blood of Hercules, it ended up being boring ... and I think that's one of the worst things a novel can be. This is a story of wasted potential and a lack of thorough line editing.
