On 21 September 1989, ITN filmed Chieftain tank units of the British Army undertaking armoured exercises in rural West Germany. Attention had been drawn to the damage such exercises were causing to local roads, and a number of civilians could be seen unhappily observing the armoured vehicles as they passed through their usually-sleepy towns.
