Behind the church of Pomerol on deep gravel soil with admixtures of sand, loam and iron lie the 6 hectares vineyard of Eglise Clinet. This vineyard is one of the few that did not need to be repopulated after the heavy frost of 1956 in Pomerol and therefore has a very old vine population. Some of the vines are over one hundred years old. Denis Durantou has been managing the winery since 1983 and makes the most of this excellent raw material. Through careful selection and Durantous cellar use arise here rich, powerful and fruit-intensive Pomerols. Denis is always at a stage between slightly oblique artistry and organic biological, very intelligent farmers.
Eglise Clinet has now won the status of cult wine and is priced third in the Pomerol (behind Petrus and Le Pin) traded, but the quality of the chateau is on the same level.
In part.2 of the interview with Denis Durantou of Château l´Eglise-Clinet, Piero and Denis are tasting Château Montlandrie 2009 (Côtes de Castillon), Château l´Eglise-Clinet 2008 from a magnum bottle and Château l´Eglise-Clinet 2010 directly from the barrel. (August 19. 2011)
