Brutal MTB Climb to 2,275m ASL + Insane 65km/h Rocky Descent | Nyeri Off-Road Ride

On 30th December 2025, we went out for a short but intense mountain bike ride on a blissful sunny morning in Nyeri, Kenya. What looked like an “easy” ride on paper quickly turned into a proper test of legs, lungs, and bike handling skills 🚵‍♂️🔥

We covered 43 km with 830 m of climbing, riding mostly off-road, gravel, rocky, and mountainous terrain on our mountain bikes.

We started the ride at Ken Genius Bike Shop, rolling together with our friend Jayson, who was on a gravel bike. From Nyeri town, we rode through Kamakwa, Kamuyu, and Kamuyu, then headed to Kinunga via Gwa Kibaara, where we tackled a 3 km rocky/gravel section averaging about 2% gradient.

Right after that section, we split with Jayson and began the hardest climb of the day — a brutal 3.8 km ascent averaging 6%, with maximum gradients hitting 25% in some sections 😮‍💨
This climb took us past Mbui Paradise Farm, through Gaithuri and Huhoini, all the way to the highest point of the ride at 2,275 m above sea level, right at the entrance to Aberdare National Park.

From there, it was time to let the bikes run.

We descended back to Nyeri town through Wandumbi, Githakwa, Kianjiru Tea Buying Centre, Wamagana, and Giakanja. The off-road downhill was fast, raw, and insanely fun, hitting speeds of up to 65 km/h on rough, rocky terrain — exactly where mountain bikes shine.
