I've tried to make this arrangement of Away In A Manger accessible for as many combinations of players as possible, so although it's officially a 4-part ensemble (with "Melody", "Melody & Descant", "Harmony 1", and "Harmony 2"), it also works in the following reduced combinations:
Melody / Melody & Descant / Harmony 1;
Melody / Harmony 1 / Harmony-2-for-the-first-two-verses-then-switching-to-descant;
Melody / Harmony 1 / Harmony 2 (this is particularly suitable for conservative players who think I'm tampering with a perfectly good carol by adding a descant);
It's even effective with just Melody / Harmony 1 if you're really short of players!
Less experienced players in harp ensembles often get less interesting parts to play, but in this arrangement the easiest part is definitely the melody, so everyone should feel they've contributed something special to a performance.
