Are there truly ‘spiritual teachers’ and other ‘enlightened people’ who are perfect, clear mirrors, and if an interaction with them triggers an emotional reaction, it is just your ego being provoked?

Rupert says: ‘I think this idea is nonsense – it’s dangerous. Anyone can cause a response in us, and that might be an emotional reaction, but we can also respond intelligently. Whether that person is so-called enlightened or not is irrelevant – you should trust your own understanding.

‘Don’t abdicate your discrimination to a teacher. Be honest with yourself and check if your response is an emotional reaction or an intelligent response. If it’s an emotional reaction, take care of it. But if it’s an intelligent response, then have the courage of your conviction and stand by it, whoever the other person is.’
