On the 18th of January 2020, Direct Rail Services ran a farewell tour for their class 20s in association with Pathfinder. Recent years have had little work for the small fleet of remaining locos, and signs of their age are showing all too well. DRS originally acquired the 20s at the start of privatisation and used them extensively on nuclear flask workings. Nowadays this is hauled by the much newer fleets of class 68s and 88s, leaving the only work for the 20s being a very select few RHTT services in autumn in Yorkshire.
DRS decided that they had finished with them, so organised a farewell tour to give them 'one last hurrah!' Orginally, 3 20s were booked for the tour, but one of them (20303) was declared unfit to run about a week before the tour, so it ran with two instead (20302 and 305). The train was hauled by 57002 and 57003 from Bristol Temple Meads to York, where the 20s took over and continued to Leeds via Harrogate. After about 2 hours in Neville Hill Depot, they then took the train from Leeds to Crewe via Sheffield, where 68009 'Titan' would take charge for the remainder of the journey back to Bristol (Outward headcode was 1Z49, return 1Z50).
