The Heartland. America in the middle was just that for its railroads as well. Chicago, Saint Louis, and Kansas City were where Eastern and Western railroads exchanged tremendous amounts of production and raw materials, It truly was the gathering place of American railroads. This photo essay touches on just a fraction of that exchange. I would have liked to spend more time in this part of the country, but I had one major objecction...no mountains!! Now far removed from the great era of railroading, I wish I would have given more time to capture the true essence of the Midwest. BUT: What I got was good!!
