When the east descended into CSX and Norfolk Southern, I increasingly went west to enjoy the big three western railroads I had enjoyed so much on earlier visits in the late 70s and 80s. UP, Santa Fe, and SP still wore the same colors as then, so it became my security blanket for some stability in my rail world. Sad to say, by the mid 90s, that same trauma swept the west as quickly as Chessie and Conrail had done in that earlier decade. By the end of the 90s, only UP still stood bigger than ever. Santa Fe and Southern Pacific became just pages in a book.
