Brian’s journey to a brighter future
started when he was adopted from
t he streets of Seoul, South Korea, at
the age of four. His birth parents were
not able to care for him and he had
been abandoned. Brian’s adoptive
parents brought him to the U.S., and
he became part of their loving family.
During his teen years, however, Brian
struggled and became involved in
using and dealing drugs.
Fast forward to Brian in his late
t wenties—he was deeply addicted,
in and out of jail. He would resolve
to change his life and got clean for a time, but relapsed and
became immersed in criminal activities again, raided by law
enforcement, receiving multiple gunshot wounds. Despite
these serious injuries, within a week of his release from the
hospital he started dealing again, was arrested, and faced a 30-
year prison sentence.
During his incarceration, Brian found faith. This proved to be
the catalyst he needed to resist the pull of his addiction. He
was released from prison but now had to find a job, no small
task with a felony record. No employers would consider hiring
him—until the day he walked in the door at our Colorado Springs Outlet and Goodwill saw something in Brian that
other employers had not.
