Achiever of the Year Honoree: Corbin Lyons (2024)

We’ve all heard the saying, “not all
heroes wear capes.” In Corbin’s
case, he may not wear a literal cape,
but he certainly soars high to those
around him. As an individual with an
intellectual disability, Corbin has to
work a bit harder to let his superhero
credentials shine. One of the most
i mportant people in Corbin’s life is
Donna, his host home provider. Donna,
her husband and sons have provided
stability, love and safety since Corbin
started living with them nine years ago.
In 2023, Corbin suffered a traumatic
event and was hospitalized for a long
period. Upon his release, he was thrilled to go home and reunite
with his family and start his next adventure, joining Goodwill’s
Possibilities day program where he had a network of support:
fellow clients and staff who cheered him on every day to
achieve what might seem impossible to mere mortals.
Corbin especially loves the Possibilities art studio where he can
let his love of comic book art inspire his projects. One of Corbin’s
best friends is Jesse, another Possibilities client and Corbin’s
housemate. The curriculum and environment allow them to
socialize, learn skills that support greater independence and
confidence, and flourish.
