The Thrikkalur Subrahmanya Swamy Temple is located in the village of Thrikkalur in the Mannarkkad Taluk of Palakkad district, Kerala, India.
The temple with centuries old history, is one with the largest sanctum sanctorum and circular outer wall temples in and around Palakkad district.
Legend has it that Thrikkalur is the place where Lord Shiva's holy feet touched after the battle of Devasura.
The name Thrikkaloor was later changed to Thrikkalur. This temple, which evokes the glory of the Almighty Lord Subrahmanya Swamy, was once owned by the ‘Purayannur Mana’ who were the rulers of the land. The temple was very famous at that time.
‘Shashtiyootu’, the favorite offering of Subrahmanya Swamy, was performed in this temple at that time. Even Brahmins from Kalpathy, Govindarajapuram, Koduvayur, Nechully, Sekharipuram, Parli and Noorani used to come to the temple to take part in this ritual. About 50 drums of rice were spent for this.
This glorious temple was destroyed by the hands of some jealous evil forces during the Malabar riots of 1921.
They stormed the temple, removed the idol of Subrahmanya Swamy, cut off his hand and head and threw him into the pool.
Malabar riots made severe damage to the temple.
The temple was re-dedicated in the year 1978 as a result of the efforts of a group of devotees living nearby.
According to the Deva Prasna, the idol was brought from Madurai and dedicated by the former Guruvayur Melshanthi Shornur Koonathara Thiyannoor Manakkal Krishnan Namboothiri.
