Cosmetic Bag #2 | EASY FOLKSY Piecing | Zazu's Stitch Art Tutorials

Inspired by friends, who were inspired by the quiltmakers of Gee's Bend, here I piece this little quilt top using scissor-cut scraps left over from binding funky potholders and a scrap of funny little chick fabric. This is for those who are interested in how I got here, or who are beginners and want to make a super easy bag top.

0:00 Intro: Recreating a bag I made in high school from a remnant and a diagonal zipper. This is a contemporary surface installation.
1:14 Line out scissor-cut scraps however you want. I like some of the strips to be thinner.
1:56 I move my needle to the 1/4-inch position in lieu of a patchwork foot. This simplifies piecing math. Stitch your pieces together.
2:59 Press by setting the seams and then press the seams to the dark side.
3:31 Lay out pieceing with batting and a backing, which becomes the lining.With right side together, stitch on chick fabric through all layers. This is a quilt as you go technique.
4:17 Stitch and press open.
4:32 I stitch my chicks with one thread, and my batiks with two.
4:56 Square up on the mat to 4.5 x 16-inches. My zipper is 13 inches. We will shorten the zipper on both ends.
