Duke City Case Files Episode 1: DeAndre Garcia

UPDATE:
The Albuquerque Police Department has charged and apprehended, Gilbert Salazar 19, and Jose Angel Marquez, 24, for the 2019 homicide of DeAndre Garcia.

APD’s recently formed Digital Intelligence Team was able to analyze newly discovered cellular evidence that assisted in propelling the investigation forward. In early February warrants were signed for Jose Angel Marquez and Gilbert Salazar following a lengthy investigation. On February 11, detectives with the Albuquerque Police Department interviewed Marquez at the Wyandotte County Detention Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

During the interview, Marquez told investigators he and three other males went to the apartments along Eagle Ranch Road on October 9, 2019. He admitted they fired shots into the apartment where DeAndre Garcia was later found dead, after being shot through the door. Marquez said in 2020 he moved to Kansas.

On March 15, 2022, Gilbert Salazar, was arrested by APD officers after a traffic stop along Carlisle Blvd. N.E. Officers learned Salazar had an active warrant for an Open Count of Murder and took him into custody.

According to Salazar’s ex-girlfriend who was with DeAndre Garcia the day of the homicide, Salazar made threats against her life. On the day of the homicide she said two males dressed in dark colored, hooded sweatshirts and red bandanas covering their faces were chasing after her as she ran into her apartment.

The homicide investigation into DeAndre Garcia’s death was featured as the first episode in the Duke City Case Files. The video which was released in June of 2021, highlighted DeAndre’s life as a well-known prodigy guitarist, his family and information from investigators on the case.

Marquez remains in custody in Kansas City and Salazar has been booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center. Both men have been charged with an Open Count of Murder and Conspiracy.
