Ticks can harbor more than Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacteria which can cause Lyme disease. In fact, ticks can harbor multiple infectious organisms that can lead to various diseases, also referred to as "co-infections". A single tick bite can transmit several diseases. It is now recognized that tick-borne co-infections are the norm, not the exception.
Some of the most common Lyme disease co-infections include: Babesia, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis, Bartonella, STARI, and Borrelia miyamotoi.
