This video covers the piriformis muscle anatomy and how to palpate it. Starting with the sacrum and the sacrotuberous ligament. Related article: https://bit.ly/piriformispain | This provides a foundation for effective palpation of your piriformis. Conventional wisdom tells you to release your piriformis. But your piriformis's primary responsibility is to provide hip and low back stability. In most cases, the piriformis muscle isn't tight. Instead, the piriformis is underperforming. If you regularly stretch, only to be back at it the next day, your piriformis is likely not tight. Suppose your massage therapist massages the tendinous attachments of the piriformis like I've shown in this video. In that case, you'll walk away from the massage table with a piriformis capable of pulling its weight. Then, the muscles that were compensating for the stability your piriformis couldn't provide relax.
