"Record High Great Lakes Water Levels", a recap of 2019 & projections for 2020 by Lauren Fry and Chris Warren. Multiple record high water levels were broken in 2019 across most of the Great Lakes. The dramatic rise in water levels beginning in 2013 came on the heels of more than 10 years of low water levels that included record lows on Lakes Superior and Michigan - Huron. This presentation will place current water levels in the context of a century's worth of water level data, describe events leading to current levels, and share the latest water level forecasts issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Presented February 18, 2020 at the Carnegie Museum of the Keweenaw, Houghton, MI, as part of their Keweenaw Natural History seminars. Speakers: Lauren Fry, technical lead for Great Lakes hydrology, and Chris Warren, Senior Hydraulic Engineer both of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Detroit District Office of Great Lakes Hydraulics and Hydrology.
