This video is a walkthrough of a procedural generation visualization tool built in Godot, designed to help developers understand how different procedural algorithms behave through direct, visual experimentation.
The tool is fully open source and available on itch.io and GitHub. I recommend opening it alongside this video so you can experiment with parameters in real time.
This walkthrough builds on ideas from my procedural generation talk at Columbia University, but the concepts discussed here are engine-agnostic and applicable beyond Godot.
What’s covered:
Rooms & Corridors generation
Noise-based generation (frequency, octaves, lacunarity, gain)
Cellular Automata (Game of Life)
Drunken Walk / Random Walk generation
Generator modularity and system design
Baking procedural data into a TileMap
