Does sitting cause a literal pain in the butt? Sitting is one of the most common painful positions for people with Piriformis Syndrome or Deep Gluteal Syndrome. Most people will search online and start trying all kinds of stretching exercises for relief (figure 4 stretch, knee to chest, sciatic nerve glides, leg raises, etc.)... but they may be keeping you from healing. Stretching and sitting are both forms of compression - which reduces blood supply and oxygen + nutrients to the deep glute muscles and the sciatic nerve. In this video, I share a 60 second exercise you can perform in your chair to maximize the blood supply to the piriformis muscle and boost your chances of relief. I'll also share a simple tweak or modification to the way you sit so you can maintain the positive results you get from the exercise for longer.
