Stylized Fire Texture Tutorial — Week 1 of my “50 Weeks of Stylized VFX” challenge.
This video shows the full process of creating a procedural stylized fire texture in Substance Designer — from building the base noise and wave patterns to shaping the final flame form.
It’s a static texture built entirely from noise, designed to later be used in a stylized shader.
🧩 Process Overview:
00:00 - Intro
00:13 - Created fire streaks using Anisotropic Noise warped by Cells 1
02:03 - Built a soft wave pattern using Cross Section and refined with Warp & Blend
02:48 - Combined both to form the final shape
03:40 - Used a custom Gradient Map from white → yellow → orange → red → black for preview
03:50 - Final result and thoughts
This texture became the first step of my year-long journey — exploring the space between art, emotion, and structure in real-time VFX.
I’ve been silently watching this community for years, and finally decided to share my process and progress week by week.
