Deer Valley East Village Gondola Stage 2 (NEW 2025!)

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: This isn’t the prettiest video out there for my standard due to visibility and me having to wipe down the windows constantly, I seriously apologize about this. I will film the East Village Gondola again later this month once conditions and the weather improves. I also wasn’t able to film Stage 1 due to low visibility and frost over the front window.

Built as the centerpiece for the Deer Valley expansion this past summer, this monster two-stage gondola is the main lift out of the new East Village and by far the biggest lift in all of Deer Valley. This gondola has a mid-angle station on Big Dutch Peak, then going to an area just west of Park Peak. While technically lappable, the East Village Gondola is more of an access lift since it primarily shuttles guests to Big-Dutch Peak and the western edge of the expansion. On the other hand however, as of January 2026, the terrain off Big Dutch Peak is lapped exclusively by the gondola, although a future D-Line bubble six pack will serve those runs more directly.

The East Village Gondola sports Doppelmayr’s D-Line design with R1 Terminals, two haul ropes for the two stages, and two direct drives both at the midstation; all at a cost of around or close to $300,000,000* by my estimate. This lift also utilizes fancy Omega-V cabins with heated seats. The cabins park at the top every night to protect them from the outside elements. The gondola utilizes tall conical towers especially for its second stage since there’s a lot of exposure and it crossing over the Revelator Express. The Midstation has the option to run the two stages together or separate, the latter which happened the day of recording. Both of the two haul ropes are the specialized Fatzer-Performa DT kind where plastic is woven between the steel strands for a smoother and more comfortable ride.

This Gondola is now the longest lift in Utah at 3 miles long, dethroning such lifts like the Aerial Tram at Snowbird and Strawberry Gondola at Snowbasin. It also serves the highest overall vertical of any lift in the Wasatch Back, beating Super Condor at Park City by more than 700 feet. The fact that this behemoth of a lift was built all in one summer is really impressive. This lift has done its job well so far and I can tell it’s going to remain operating at Deer Valley’s new East Village for decades to come.

*Based on my estimate after researching the Wild Blue Gondola at Steamboat which costed $250 million. East Village just has more towers, more sizes, having to paint them the DV Standard Green and more dramatic terrain to work with I think than with the Wild Blue Gondola although the number I claim might be misleading.
