GRD Europa: Finland Dec I - Jan I 1940 [WW2 Battle 4 (2-Player)] A Winter War

November 1939, Soviets invade Finland. My friend and I are playing through GR/D's A Winter War after the 2025 holidays. My opponent wanted to use the maps from Total War, so the maps we are using are different maps than the standard boxed GRD release. Fortunately he was able to print out what we needed and even enlarged the hexes a slight bit to make handling stacks easier.

Battle 4 of our playthrough. This video is an after-action report, discusses the order of battle for both sides, and talks a little about advantages and disadvantages of Finnish forces vs Soviet forces through the battle.

Now that Stalin is assured he won't be fighting a two-front war, he feels confident enough to make a land grab in Finland.

We're using Wavell's War rules and charts, Since things changed over the years between the GDW games from the 1970's and the GR/D games into the 1990's and 2000's. Storm Over Scandinavia for any Arctic Zone A changes, but Wavell's War as our master ruleset otherwise.

GRD Europa or GR/D Europa -A Winter War is not an 'upgraded' release of a GDW Europa wargame. This one was completely new, for it's time.

All of the Europa games can be linked together to play through just about all of World War 2 in Europe and I hope more people will find time to get it out and on the table to play!
