In this video, I go over the basics on how to jump rope. The jump rope is a very popular exercise in the sport of boxing. Many fighters use the jump rope to warm up their muscles and prepare for a hard day of training. Not only is it a great warm up tool but the jump rope can be an amazing cardio building exercise!

This video is intended for beginners. The most difficult part about the jump rope is starting off because eventually the more you do it you'll realize its all about timing. It's a rhythm. I go over some basic principles when jumping rope.

A great way to find the right size of jump rope is to step on the rope and have the handles end up by your armpits. For reference I am 5'8 and the jump rope I use is 9 feet long.

#1 Find a comfortable mid range grip (make sure your hands are not too wide or too narrow)
#2 Gather momentum before jumping (most people mess up as they start) I like to grab both handles, bring them together, and do a figure 8 motion with my arms to gather momentum.
#3 Make sure to hop with two feet and land on your toes. Try to land as softly as possible to avoid stomping and potential soreness or shin splints. Start easy then build your way up.
#4 Practice until you get the timing down! I know very simple to suggest but its 100% true. It WILL get easier every time you try, its all about timing.
