Give this a go a few times a week so we don't risk losing our core strength! It is SO important that as cheerleaders we have strong core muscles as often we see bases with back pain due to not holding themselves correctly under a stunt and we see flyers wiggling around or falling due to not being able to maintain a strong hollow shape in the air. A strong set of abs will also benefit you in your tumbles for example snapping from an arch to dish shape in a back handspring or getting your legs up and over in a back tuck. You will also see benefits in your jumps for example straddle jumps require you to rotate your hips to lift your legs past the hyperextension point and pike jumps require you to lift your legs and reach for your toes to make a clean horizontal pike shape in the air. We also notice that athletes with stronger core muscles often come across with a much cleaner and sharper performance during routines. What more could you want?!
