Tune in to my latest video on the unfortunately popular topic of falls, fall risk, and balance. Here I touch on a broad overview of what balance is, differentiate between static and dynamic balance, ways to assess balance including Romberg, Berg Balance, and FGA, and various balance exercises that can help address static balance problems. Later I also discuss overall strategies to promote "better balance," that may not even involve a lot of "balance exercises" per se, such as simply improving a person's strength and fitness level.
As I often say, there are many ways to skin the exercise cat, meaning that from an activity and exercise standpoint, there are many ways to arrive at a similar place strength and fitness-wise. Only a few of those ways however, are going to keep you that way for the upcoming decades of life. With age-related conditions like arthritis being a very real and functionally limiting problem, selecting exercises that not only promote strength, but also minimize joint strain is an increasingly important consideration. So speaking from an exercise point of view, if you're interested in getting more life out of your years, tune in and get started today.

*Note: please make sure you are performing these exercises supervised or safely if you have already had a fall or have impaired balance. The goal of balance training is to provoke balance, however doing so may result in a fall (which is not the goal of balance training). When in doubt. Talk to your doctor or physical therapist to make sure you are safe to perform these exercises without assistance.
**Disclaimer: always consult your doctor prior to starting an exercise program and what if any precautions you may have.
