Day 43 & 44 of travelling overland from the UK to Australia. No flights.
We spend two days in Niš, Serbia, starting slow with bad weather, healthy breakfast and exploring the city, from the fortress to one of Serbia’s darkest historical sites.
After a night of incredible homemade pasta at a family-run restaurant, we check out and prepare for what might be the most uncertain part of the journey so far, a single daily bus from Serbia to Kosovo that many travellers say never turns up.
With only one departure a day and plenty of warning stories online, we take the risk anyway and hope the bus, and the engine survives the journey.
This is overland travel in the Balkans, unpredictable, welcoming, and never boring.
