Cobra Pose is a gentle backbend that builds strength in the back while opening the front of the body.
What’s working:
The muscles along the spine engage to lift the chest, while the shoulders, arms, and core provide support. The legs stay active and grounded as the chest broadens forward and up.
Benefits:
• Strengthens the muscles of the back
• Opens the chest, shoulders, and heart space
• Improves posture and spinal mobility
• Can help counteract slouching and prolonged sitting
• Encourages deeper, fuller breathing
Precautions:
Keep a light bend in the elbows and avoid pushing too deeply into the hands. If you have lower back sensitivity, keep the lift low and focus on length rather than height. Avoid this pose if you’re experiencing acute back pain or during late-stage pregnancy unless guided by a professional.
