Jeni's Kerala Restaurant @ Vasco, Goa, Jan 2024

Today, we are excited to eat Kerala food at the restaurant of a daughter of a former Mormugao Port Trust worker, born and brought up in Goa.

The restaurant is named after owner Jayanthi's daughter Jenisha. It's called 2nd Jeni’s Restaurant because the first one only had two tables and they served only egg roast and appam. As they became popular, they had to move to this bigger location.

When this is the view, where else could we be but Goa’s lovely port city of Vasco da Gama

2nd Jeni’s Restaurant is located on the Zuari road in Vasco, just ahead of Dabolim airport. You can see the airport terminal when standing outside Jeni’s.

Jaya is super excited to have Kerala food. It’s one of her favourites. And Viola and I are excited to have something different, made with our own familiar Goan ingredients.

Jaya is having veg stew and appam and puttu with kadala. Viola is trying the special Kerala fish thali. And Lesley is having pepper chicken with idiappam.

Jeni's Kerala fish thali has prawns roast, prawns curry, cabbage thoran, Kerala rice, fish fry, papad, fish curry and sambhar. It’s much bigger than our Goan thalis.

After trying the fish curry, Lesley is equally as in love with the Goan fish curry as with the Kerala fish curry, Jeni’s version.

That was one fantastic feast. All that food and the bill is not even Rs 1,000.

We’ll definitely go back there.
