Understanding different types of homes and materials helps us learn how people adapt to their environment.
In the desert, homes have flat stone roofs that protect families from dust and dirt.
In cold weather regions, roofs are made of slanted ceramic tiles, helping snow and rain slide off easily.
In the tropical rainforest, roofs are built from leaves and sticks, slanted to keep animals out and protect from heavy rain.
Matter is everything around us it has mass and takes up space. We can describe matter by observing its color, shape, texture, odor, and size. We use special tools to measure different properties of matter, like a measuring cup for volume, a ruler or tape measure for length, a balance for mass, and a thermometer for temperature.
