Abstract
Supersolidity has been introduced in 1970s as an effect originated from the Bose-Einstein condensation of vacancies in crystals.
Attempts to observe it in solid Helium-4 were inconclusive. In the XXI-st century, it was understood that a periodically arranged superfluid would possess all characteristic features of a supersolid.
This made observation of supersolidity in cold atom and exciton-polariton systems straightforward, once one of the three conditions is fulfilled:
(1) the roton instability, (2) the attractive interaction of bosons, (3) the negative effective mass.
I will overview the recent progress in this research area.
