At the core of Rosebank Mall’s smart grid lies a 6 MWh Freedom Won lithium-ion Megatower, paired with an additional 1 MWh system at Rosebank Gardens. This dense, compact storage solution enables the mall to:
Store and deploy energy flexibly across multiple inputs (solar PV, gas, grid wheeling, and backup generators).
Respond to load events in milliseconds, stabilising the grid and avoiding costly peak demand tariffs.
Unlock real-time cost optimisation and carbon reduction.
Provide long-term resilience against South Africa’s grid instability.
