HIGHLAND PARK, LOS ANGELES, Nov. 24 (KNN) – A motorcyclist landed in a riverbed after crashing in Highland Park early Monday morning.
Los Angeles firefighters and California Highway Patrol officers responded to a motorcycle crash shortly after 2 a.m. on the northbound side of the 110 Freeway near the Avenue 43 off-ramp.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a male motorcyclist had crashed into the bridge of the off-ramp and had fallen more than 40 feet into the river below.
Rescue crews quickly set up a hoist operation from the bridge to retrieve the rider. They successfully hoisted him back up to ground level and transported him to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Witnesses reported that the rider appeared to be traveling north when he collided with the wall for unknown reasons, which sent him over the barrier and into the riverbed.
Crews estimated the fall to be between 40 and 50 feet.
