When Anna wants David to read her a story about fish and Harry wants to hear one about pirates, David reads them one about both out of his journal adventures. The story begins with a Gnome child called Bilbo who lived with his parents on the beach. The boy witnesses a blundering pirate ship accidentally sinking a treasure-filled galleon instead of capturing it. Since the pirates couldn't swim, their Captain Grit buries a map to the sunken galleon between two crossing palms on Bilbo's beach. Years later, the pirate captain returns for the map and treasure, but the same hurricane that throws him overboard, uproots one of the palms and he's cursed to wander and never find the treasure.
