AITA for “Choosing” My Dad in the Divorce and Losing My Mom Because of It?
When my parents divorced, I was 13 and completely overwhelmed. My mom was depressed, drinking, and living far from my school. My dad’s house was closer, calmer, and easier for my schedule—so I stayed there more often.
I never thought I was choosing one parent over the other… but years later, my mom has pulled away from me completely.
After refusing to give one of my childhood dolls to her stepdaughter, she stopped responding to me altogether. My sister then told me my mom has never forgiven me for “picking” my dad during the divorce—and revealed a secret I never knew about why they split up.
