Everything depends on your intention.
In this video, I demonstrate how you can use split squats as a stretch for the back leg quads/hip flexors, a strengthening exercise for the front leg quadriceps, or more of a strengthening exercise for the front leg glutes/hip muscles.
If you know what you are trying to get out of an exercise, you can vary exercises slightly to get different stimuli
