Ozark Overland Adventures Day 2: Fast Water, Fallen Trees & Forgotten History

Day 2 of Ozark Overland Adventures takes us deeper into the unknown. After camping along the banks of the North Fork Illinois Bayou, we woke up to the sound of fast-moving water and one massive question—could we cross it safely? The river was high, the current was strong, but we made the call to send it.

Making it across was just the beginning.

The trail ahead was littered with storm damage—fallen trees, washouts, and debris everywhere. With every mile, the Ozark Overland Adventure Trail threw more obstacles in our path. But we weren’t backing down.

We pushed west, linking up with two more Jeepers—Stuart and Colleen—bringing our total crew to eight rigs. After powering through more rough terrain, we stopped at a hidden gem in the woods: a schoolhouse built in the 1860s, perfectly preserved in time. After exploring and grabbing lunch, we hit the trail again, racing the clock to reach our next camp before dark.

From river crossings and trail carnage to history and campfire hangs—Day 2 had it all.
