Here is my Dapol 4D-012-005, Bo-Bo Class 22 'Baby Warship - Sad Eyes' D6331, Diesel-Hydraulic Locomotive with Full Yellow Panels. This model was purchased, Brand New, at nearly half the normal Retail price. I would say the Build Quality and Detailing of this Locomotive is nothing short of exceptional. Although quite a short model it does have some substantial weight.
The all wheel drive produces great Slow-Speed running, using its Super-Creep Motor, fitted with Twin Brass Flywheels and a 40:1 gearing ratio. The model comes with side valances which are fitted separately, each being handed and numbered so need to be fitted on correct side of the locomotive and in the correct number order.
I really wanted to add a Driver to the Cab but for some reason Dapol welded the sealed Cab into the Locomotive Body. One option to fit a driver into the Cab, meant cutting the inner Cab out, with a high potential of causing serious damage to the outer Body / Glazing. I decided it wasn't worth the risk. So No Cab Driver.
Initially, I installed a Dapol 21 PIN 6 Function Imperium DCC Decoder, but found the Directional and Cab lighting quirky, frustrating and Non-Logical to operate.
As Hornby do not produce a Class 22 TTS Decoder, I decided to splash out and install a LokSound v5 Class 22 Decoder which can be heard during this video. Although these Sound Decoders are 3x the cost of a TTS Decoder, there should be and there are, benefits over the Hornby TTS chips. Features such as Polyphonic Sounds, Automatic Braking as the Locomotive is brought to a Stop and, unlike the Dapol Imperium Decoder, perfect Directional - Cab Lighting control is achieved. The model also features Split backlit Destination Headbox-Codes at each end as well as Cab lights, which when turned on, only work at the Cab-End facing the Direction of travel. At the moment the Locomotive is about to move off, the Cab light turns off automatically, then turns back on again automatically, when the Locomotive Stops. The video does show this Great feature but is quite difficult to see. The Engine Start-Up & Shut-Down Sounds are impressive as well as being very realistic to a real Diesel Engine.
All in all, I really do like this Model... A Lot.
Thank You for your interest.
