Did I get my Jordanian Residency VIsa in April 2025?

How did my residency application in Jordan go? This was my first real attempt, and while I had a plan, it definitely didn’t go smoothly. Here’s a quick recap of the past day or so.
I meant to start filming earlier, but I didn’t. The goal was to apply for my residency visa—or at the very least, extend my visitor visa. First stop was the Department of Tourism Police to get my national ID number into my new passport. That part went fine: a security check, a 1 JD stamp, some form filling, waiting around, and eventually, a sticker in the passport.
Then we were told residency applications are now done online. I tried logging in, but I was locked out of the app. So, mission one was complete—passport updated—but mission two hit a wall.
I also needed an updated housing lease, now handled via an app. Mine was blocked with no explanation. We went to the ministry, waited 20 minutes, and the IT guy reset it. But once back in, the app offered fewer visa categories than before—about seven—and I didn’t clearly fit any.
Also, the app demanded full access to my phone—contacts, photos, everything. I’ve never allowed that before, but this time I had no choice if I wanted to proceed. It’s a government app—you comply or you’re stuck.
After cooling off at home, I reviewed the residency options again. Over the last few years, I’ve read all of them. I didn’t qualify for the 200,000 JD property visa, or for the investment or work-related categories. The only one that remotely fit was the 10,000 JD bank deposit. But of course, I couldn’t open a bank account without a residency. Catch-22.
We went back to the Ministry of Interior. Al asked someone which residency applied to me. They confirmed the 10,000 JD deposit. So we asked—how do we open a bank account without a residency? “Just tell the bank it’s for a residency application,” they said. Apparently that’s all it takes.
Al wasn’t thrilled with my attitude, but I’ve learned you only get real answers if you dig. In Jordan, your outcome depends on who you talk to and what kind of day they’re having. There’s no consistent code of conduct like back in Australia.
One bright spot: I didn’t see anyone smoking in the ministry office. A small, welcome change.
So where does that leave me? I’ve got until the 16th to renew my tourist visa, so I’ll go to the local police station and get biometrics done again. Hopefully when I return later in the year, the bank account will be open, and I can apply properly.
Then, a breakthrough: during a car ride with Al, I remembered someone who helped with my property purchase. I called, and they offered to connect me with someone who could help open a bank account tied to residency. I explained that the 25,000 AUD isn’t in Jordan yet—it’ll arrive around September or October. They understood and said they’d help.
That contact later asked if I had a letter from the Ministry of Interior—the one we tried to get the day before. I don’t, and I’m not sure how to get it.
So, the residency visa is on hold for now. But I have better information and someone who seems willing to help. I told Al: with full information, I can make informed decisions. Living in Jordan is my choice. If it becomes too difficult, I can sell up and live somewhere else—Bali, Vietnam, Indonesia. I’m here because I want to be, not because I have to be.
Do I have a residency visa yet? No. Am I closer? Possibly. I’ll follow up with the bank and renew my tourist visa this week. Al’s busy on the 16th, so I’ll handle it.
With clarity, I can make the right call. Did I get my residency? Not yet.
