Hammer Drop Disarm

Welcome back to Top Dog Fighting, where we dive deep into the raw, real-contact world of Filipino stick and knife fighting.
In this third installment of our 4 Basic Disarms series, we focus on the Hammer Drop Disarm — a brutal, fast, and highly effective technique that naturally presents itself in a real fight when your opponent is savvy enough to counter your Snake Disarm by retreating or sidestepping just out of range.
This is the moment where the Hammer Drop shines. If your opponent is smart and backs up to avoid your inside or outside Snake disarm — but doesn’t retreat far enough — you’ll often find yourself in perfect position to grab his stick mid-motion and execute the Hammer Drop with force and precision. Unlike more complex variations, the Hammer Drop is direct, powerful, and hard to counter, and you’ll almost always retain your weapon.

The mechanics of the Hammer Drop Disarm

Common scenarios where opponents trigger this disarm themselves
A recovery variation in the rare event you miss the initial grab
How to follow through with a disabling strike
And why a strong, committed strike should always be your foundation
