Day 6 of solo hiking the Coast to Coast, I left the Patterdale YHA camping grounds, a truly serene camping spot, though my anxiety & homesickness was hitting hard. I have an emotional moment behind the camera, but I try not to let it ruin the day. After all, look at where I was; stunning Patterdale heading for the iconic Angle Tarn.
I began to feel a little better as I reached the tarn, passing other hikers along the way and chatting with them. I came across a hiker who I recognised from the Black Sail Hut from day 3, so we walked together for a while, over Kidsty Pike, the highest point on the whole trail.
The climb down from Kidsty Pike to Haweswater was brutal. Genuinely treacherous, one misstep would have you tumbling down the rocks. With a massive 17kg backpack, this would prove to be all the more difficult.
As the day wore on, hiking along Haweswater with a couple hours of sunlight to go, I began to feel down and relatively melancholic again, though having the company of another hiker for this section did help a little.
We discussed where to camp for the night, the other hiker, Pete, took out his map and luckily we spotted a campsite in Burnbanks at the end of Haweswater! There was no trace of this online,on online maps, or even in my own Harvey's Map.
We arrived at the site, Aragon Campsite, which was basically just a fenced off patch of garden with use of the owner's house to use the loo or a shower. The owner was a friendly enough old man, with a long white beard down to his feet and a dog which looked like it was ready to attack at any moment.
It was a pretty little garden; picturesque and truly like something from a fairytale. I pitched by the stream that flowed through the garden, but of course that meant the midges were out in full force. So after ringing Cameron & my mum, I felt so much better, and got an early night, feeling uplifted & positive for the next day ahead.
*Also, this video is only 12 minutes long as I barely had any memory left on my SD card, so most was actually filmed on my phone! The day following this, I pick another one up in Kirkby Stephen to film the rest of the journey properly, so the following videos should be longer :D

Also, my brother and I hiked Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for Mind, we got 55 miles in before we were forced to cut it short due to food poisoning from The Twice Brewed Inn on our third night! We're better now, and will continue the walk soon, so if you’d like to donate and support Mind I’ll add the link below! It’d mean so much, and for a good cause!
