The Penzance Mayzey Day Specials | 28.6.25

Its that time of year in Cornwall where the railtour season on the area is just that bit better, and it's all thanks to the famous Penzance festival, Mayzey Day! Each year, 2 or more charter services will take people to this famous event and for 2025, we had quite the lineup! First to arrive into the Dutchy was the well known class 52 Western No. D1015 .Western Champion' which hauled the first tour, this being 'The Mayzey Day Special' by Pathfinder Railtours from Dorridge. The 2nd to come along was the iconic Blue Pullman HST, consisting of 43055 & 43049 'Neville Hill' which led the 'Cornish Mayzey Day Pullman' from Shrewsbury.

In this video, we see both tours at a range of spots including St Erth, Penzance, & North Crofty Junction. All of these locations provided some excellent shots and got the locomotives at full power, especially with D1015 showing the pure glory of a proper western diesel hydraulic. Also making a nice addition to the show was GBRF shed 66768 which was down from Bishops Lydeard on route learning during the event, this would then head for Fowey Dock Carne Point.
