In this presentation Dr. Marie M. Onakomaiya, PhD, MPH shares about her research and work to build a service that can measure, quantify, and make the “invisible” symptoms that come with brain injury something recordable and visible for anyone.
Dr. Onakomaiya is the founder and CEO of a health technology startup called Metric Health.

Dr. Onakomaiya presents research she did with active military members demonstrating how “invisible conditions” like brain injury and PTSD effect performance and various abilities. From that background, she has built an app and AI based platform to help record and quantify patient generated health data that can be shared with clinicians in order to record and measure brain injury related problems. She also shares how this data can be used to help and support better care for people with brain injury.
In addition to a detailed look at this cutting edge technology, this seminar includes discussion with several brain injured people that highlights the misunderstood problems that come with brain injury. After the presentation a great discussion follows that shows the “gap” surrounding brain injury, in terms of problems that brain injured people have to deal with, not being something that the outside world including clinicians can readily comprehend.
Nancy, Randy, and Julie are three brain injured people who share their ideas, their problems, and ask questions in this recording. They have also shared a great deal about their “invisible” brain injury problems on the podcast Experiencing My Brain. Links for those interviews are below. Each is a great examples of what invisible problems actually look like, because these problems are not invisible when it’s your own brain that is injured.
