Attention problems that occur as a result of brain injury are complex, hard to imagine, and interconnected with many other internal problems.
Dr. McKay Sohlberg, PhD, Professor of Communication Disorders and Sciences at the University of Oregon gives a comprehensive and in depth look at attention problems that come with brain injury and how clinicians work to treat and think about these problems.
This recording is actually a lecture in one of Dr. Sohblerg's graduate courses. She discusses many factors including how interconnected attention is with other cognitive and functional processes, different problems with attention, how these problems are assessed, cognitive models for attention, how the clinical view on computer based training have changed with regards to helping people with attention problems, the limitations and applications that transfer to real world benefits, and so much more. This talk full of great information.
The presentation lasts about 40 minutes and then brain injured individuals share about their problems and ask Dr. Sohlberg questions, leading into discussion between clinicians and brain injured people living with these types of problems. The discussion is excellent, offering glimpses of the real world problems with brain injury, attention, other brain injury probelms, and other factors involved in treatment.
