Saleshando Says Boko Has “Ticked All the Boxes” for No-Confidence Motion

Leader of the Opposition Dumelang Saleshando says President Duma Boko has already met the political threshold for a motion of no confidence — accusing him of secrecy, abuse of privilege and failing the test of accountable leadership.

Speaking amid growing political tension, Saleshando said the opposition has a constitutional duty to act when a President shows conduct that undermines transparency and public trust.

He questioned the President’s unexplained foreign travel, arguing that no leader should “disappear for more than a week” without accounting to the nation, and raised concerns over the cost of private travel — suggesting it is inconsistent with the known salary of a Head of State.

Saleshando warned that Botswana risks developing a dangerous culture where leaders operate above scrutiny, insisting that truth does not require numbers — only principled leadership.

He said even if the opposition lacks the numbers to pass a motion, tabling it would send a powerful message that the country is bigger than power, privilege and “the black car.”

The remarks add fuel to an escalating political confrontation as pressure mounts on the UDC government just months into its term.
