This is one of my favourite movements that I tend to use in my classes. It looks simple but there is a lot going on! It has multiple benefits for the body and protects the lower back.
Both sides of this movement are important to get the full benefit as it is not just about the hamstrings! Yes part of it is to help stretch out the back line of the body and release the hamstrings, but also this movement is strengthening for the quads and knees.
Another important benefit it that is aid blood and lymph circulation with this squeeze and release motion alongside the effect of gravity with the leg raised.
So please don't be put off if you know you have tight hamstrings, there are other benefits to be had, and with regular practise you may find you become more flexible too!
