Kim Pate

For some 40 years, Senator Kim Pate has worked with and on behalf of some of the most marginalized, victimized, criminalized and institutionalized. In addition to striving to breathe life into the substantive equality provisions of Canada‘s 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐬, Kim works to implement the positive recommendations of many inquiries, investigations and inquests, including the 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞 of the 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 and the 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐲.

Kim believes that the contributions of those who are too often ignored: those who experience discrimination and oppression should be engaged and she is recognized as someone who persistently seeks to partner and collaborate. She maintains contact with those in community, including prisoners. She also encourages all advocates, scholars, judges, and parliamentarians to ground their legislative and policy efforts in a similar way.
