Training to break 9 hours | Ironman California Episode 1

It’s the much awaited rematch as Tom takes on the sub 9 hour Ironman Triathlon again. His last attempt saw knee pain knock him out after slipping on the swim ramp at the Outlaw aggravating a knee injury. This time he has learnt from his last attempt and has improved everything; he has even designed his own training method. His whole year and life has been set around this challenge and so far he has taken down his Ironman 70.3 pb, come 22nd overall at the T100 London and come 4th at a European Championship.
It is 7 weeks till race day at Ironman California. You join him for a big weekend of training. His focus is on the run and he continues to build from his T100 London race with a spicy track session. He complete 16km of 800m reps at 3:16- 3:22/km pace. Followed by a weekend clocking up hours of swim bike and run.
His focus at the start of the Sub 9 build has been returning to routine. Ironman training is long and hard. To fit it into a busy life it has to be a priority and you have to adjust to the lifestyle that comes with it. The early mornings, the late nights and getting it done when you really don’t feel like it.
