In this video, I dive into the nitty-gritty of deep cleaning and maintaining an older trolley from the 1970s. Over the years, grime, dust, and excess oil build up inside these models, and it takes a careful teardown to bring them back into smooth-running condition.
I walk through each step of the process—removing the side frames for better access, cleaning the wheels and pickup bars with 91% isopropyl alcohol, and carefully working around the motor. I also show how to apply contact cleaner, light oil, and LaBelle grease in the right places to restore performance without overdoing it. Along the way, I share some of my own tips, including how to avoid common mistakes like over-oiling motors or neglecting the pickups.
Finally, I test the cleaned chassis on the track, noting the improvements and sharing a few lessons learned about older three-pole motors. If you’ve ever struggled with dirty pickups or sluggish performance on your models, this walkthrough will help you get things running right again.
